The Harvard Square Hotel is conveniently located near Harvard University, offering easy access to campus and the vibrant Harvard Square area. Guests consistently praise the friendly staff and the hotel’s location, while some note limited space and occasionally thin walls. Cleanliness is generally good, but concerns regarding staff responsiveness and room quality have been raised.
The location is perfect next to Harvard it made visiting my daughter very convenient even in the snow! The staff was top-notch and the rooms weee were nicely maintained ... I enjoyed the complimentary hot tea and coffee located in the lobby, but wish they had partnerships with local restaurants to deliver to hotel (leaving menus in the room to highlight recommendations for guests).
I’ve stayed here many times and I think it’s the best value in the Square. Rooms are immaculate and well-maintained. Beds are comfortable. Bathrooms are tiny and lack any surface to put your toiletries on but they are clean and everything works. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a very pleasant lobby where you can sit and work or read. There is free coffee in the lobby. There are great places to get breakfast nearby. Parking on site is convenient (but the spaces are TINY) and priced comparably to other lots, with the advantage that you can come and go for a flat fee. It is not luxurious and you’ll have more space and amenities at the nearby Charles Hotel if you want a more indulgent experience, but this hotel is almost always my preference because it has everything I need and I like its friendliness and value.
I really enjoyed the proximity to everything I needed. The customer service and ease of checking in and out is great. The rooms were very clean, they are smaller but fit what we needed. The room walls are thin, you can hear everything. However, I was ok with this as I wasn't in the room often.
Very well-designed hotel. My mattress was fabulously comfortable and I appreciated the adjustable desk chair. Each room has an iron, ironing board and hair dryer. And I appreciated the motion controlled night lights so guests do not trip when they get up in the middle of the night. There's free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate in the first floor snack area with other treats for sale. The second floor has a vending machine with reasonable prices and an ice machine. Staff was always willing to address my concerns in a professional manner. Would definitely stay again.
Keno at the front desk was so nice! He was such a good listener and was very helpful. Next time I think I’ll keep my personal issues to myself and let him work lol. Expectational
Just wanted to drop a few good notes about this place: - it’s amazing! - staff was super pleasant and accommodating, shout out to Keno, best person Cambridge! - Ryan made sure the space was kept well - beautiful rooms and great location!
Stayed here one night as we were going to a concert and did not want to drive home after. This is a cute, basic hotel that is in an amazing location. You really don’t need much in the hotel as you are right in Harvard Square surrounded by food and a short train ride to everything. The train is less than a minute walk from the hotel door. There is parking on site for an extra fee. The room was small but well appointed. It was in good condition minus some paint peeling on the wall by the shower from water. Our room had an open class shower. Everything was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I had a great sleep. I will say, the walls seem a bit thin, we had a connecting door in our room so could hear the neighbors a bit but it was quiet at night. Three of us stayed the night. If it were 4, the room would feel pretty small. I’d go for a bigger suite option in that case. It was great for 1 night or a weekend. The room felt more like a European size or NYC size hotel room. I would definitely stay again for a short trip. The picture I added is a view from the front of hotel overlooking Harvard Square.
Great location and best value in Boston. Staff was friendly and efficient though early morning cleaning staff were loud talking in hallways. SSSHHH. We toured Harvard with daughters and enjoyed Harvard Square. We’d stay again ?
The service was excellent and the location is great! However, the bathrooms are SO small and the bathroom door is always in the way. I backed into the door knob in the bathroom while getting ready and have a huge bruise from it. There’s also not many amenities; there’s free coffee and water but no breakfast (and you have to pay for the snacks in the lobby). The TV in our room also didn’t have any clear channels - everything was grainy. I expected more for the price. This isn’t the hotel’s fault, but there were so many rude guests on our floor. They were coming and going in the middle of the night, slamming doors, talking loud, and running into the walls, so it was hard to sleep. The rooms aren’t very soundproof. They also never emailed me a copy of my receipt, so I had to call them after I returned home from my trip to get it.
I was staying at this hotel on business and have never been to Boston before so I was very excited about the location. Upon check in, the front desk person was very rude and had me pay with my credit card, when i know for a fact, the company that booked my hotel had a card on file (first red flag). The next night, I woke up suddenly around 3am to realize my phone died. When I went to plug it in, it would not charge so I tested my computer that was already charged and that would not either. I called the front desk and the man was super rude over the phone. He did not speak very good english and so I repeated my problem multiple times and each time he grew more and more angry. At this point I did not want to deal with him but I sucked it up and went downstairs to try and charge my phone there because I needed it for an alarm. I get down there and this man plugs in my phone for 1 second (no exaggeration) and unplugs it and claims it’s not going to work and my charger is broken. I then go on to ask if he has a charger I could try because maybe my charger is the problem. He got very aggressive and went on a whole rant (not even really sure what he was trying to say) about how I cannot use any other charger. Then I politely ask him to try again. He does (for 2 second this time) and what do you know… my phone chargers! As I am turning on my phone he UNPLUGS THE PHONE and says how it is not charging and this is not going to work. I kindly point out that it is charging and that there is a problem with my room. Out of curiosity, I ask if there are any other rooms available that I could switch to so that I am able to charge my devices with I stay there for the next few days. This man became very angry and degrading very fast. He was telling me that I am not allowed to go to other people’s rooms to charge my phone and that is not how things work… um… yes… I know. I would not ask to use a random persons room to charge my device… that’s not what I was asking. Then I decided to charge my phone while sitting on the couch in the lobby and the whole time he was asking me if I was there alone and if my phone was charging. He probably asked me if my phone was charging 5 times. After about 15 minutes I went back to my room and by some miracle my devices are able to be charged again in the hotel! This whole interaction made me feel very uncomfortable and especially after reading some of the other reviews, I was scared to be down there alone. I would not recommend staying here alone especially if you are traveling alone as a woman.
