The Hilton Boston Back Bay presents a prime location in the heart of the Back Bay, offering easy access to attractions and restaurants. However, recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding cleanliness, outdated room design, and inconsistent service, particularly concerning early check-ins and room conditions. While some guests appreciate the proximity to the convention center and the hotel's gym, recurring issues are impacting the overall guest experience.
Writing this as a disappointed Hilton Gold Member. I was completely misled and missold by Hilton and priceline on a room at this property which has ongoing renovation works and no facilities available....which I booked as I required somewhere to do work within the hotel the next morning. Priceline blames Hilton for not telling them everything is shut and under renovation and reception blame Priceline for not reading emails. Net result = unhappy customers. They also take $150 per night deposit alongside their $36 resort fee. You can hear the room next door flush the toilet. The mattresses are poor with no support. I found a coffee stain all over the protector, and had to request a new protector and remake the bed. It must have been fairly new as the bed smelt like coffee! For sure issues always can arise in hotels but it's what then happens thereafter that is important, I had asked for a refund within the first 30 minutes and to check out and was denied, only offered the next night refund - 50% of the stay and no guarantee of success chasing that up with Priceline. Re the coffee stain I had to request the mattress protector twice and make the bed myself. Air conditioning did not work it was far too hot above 27 Celsius for sure, my water was warm in the morning. Maybe bad luck? Maybe just a bad hotel? I've never had issues with Hilton hotels but didn't feel that I was dealt with kindness. I've had issues at Marriott hotels in the past and do feel I was met with kindness. Given another couple were requesting an early check out and being spoke to condescendingly about the resort fees in the same queue as me, I think probably the latter - just a really bad example of a Hilton hotel.
My husband is a life diamond member. We stayed at this hotel two years ago and liked the location. This time, we have booked a 4 nights stay. We checked in last night, and was happy that we got upgraded to a suite. I don't care if there is no other service due to the renovation, but I was disappointed that our room even didn't get cleaned when we came back in the late afternoon. When we called for some coffee and two bottled water, we waited for more than an hour. On our way out in the evening, we told the front dest we needed a toothpaste and was told it would be sent to our room. When we came back more than two hours later and no toothpaste in the room, we called again. More than two hours later, nothing. So we called again. This time, it was quick. I don't think I would want to stay at this hotel again.
Every time we are in Boston this is where we stay. We have been staying here since 2008 and although the staff has changed through the years the staff is always friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet and clean even when you stay at a peak time. The restaurant is great for breakfast and dinner and that staff is terrific too. If you are lucky you will meet Kevin the doorman/ bellman who has been at this hotel for 31 years. I look forward to the next time I can stay at Hilton Back Bay.
I am currently staying here, and there is construction going on above me (drilling incessantly). There was no warning or notification when I booked the room that they were currently under construction. This is unacceptable. I would have chosen a different place if this information had been shared. Additionally, the information about lunch being offered in the Lobby Bar not being open on weekends is not included anywhere. Finally, this is the darkest room I have ever stayed in. The lamps and lights in the room are yellow and subdued. During the daytime, the window provides some light, but at night, it is impossible to see anything that is not directly illuminated by a light. I will not come back here unless changes are made.
Stay was ok. Room is very dark-dark panels, dark carpet, and lights didn’t exceed 45 watts. Room wouldn’t get below 75 degrees F. We had to open the window to cool room down, but then suffer the continuous sirens, vehicle horns, and people yelling. Cleaning staff was helpful but the service desk staff acted as though we were bothering them. For the expense of the room I would expect more from Hilton. No ice machine, nor coffee/tea in lobby. Only had chamomile tea in room. Walked across the street to Four Seasons for Concierge assistance and she said we could enjoy the complimentary Coffee/tea area. Intermittent Power outage on Wednesday night for about four hours. Front desk wouldn’t talk about it. We were on the upper level and no elevator service. Felt like a captive as we are not able to easily traverse that many steps. Probably will not stay here again.
I have stayed here every month for 5 years. I only come back because of the friendly bar staff and location. I will now be finding a new hotel to stay at every month. I am a diamond member who is supposed to receive complimentary upgrades and late checkouts upon availability. This hotel pretends like they have neither every single time you stay. They tell you to check back in the morning for a late check out but they can't even tell you what time the morning is and then when you do check back in the morning they'll tell you that they've already honored too many late checkouts and it's not available anymore. They tell you they can't give you an upgrade because the hotel is sold out but when you go to check in for a room there are 10 rooms available on every single floor for paid upgrades which means they aren't sold out. I messaged requesting an upgraded room for two days straight and they told me it wasn't available, and then I sat next to someone at the bar and they just randomly told me that they checked in at 2:00 that day and that the hotel upgraded them complimentary to a room that they told me was not available that I had asked for several times. They do not care about loyalty at all. I've stayed here once a month for five years straight and they act like they don't know me every time I come back. The hotel is extremely dark and outdated. The bathrooms are old and rundown. You can only have either AC or heat depending on what time of year it is. The hotel is not able to switch back-and-forth whatever it's set to is what you get. I find hair that is not mine in my room often when I check in. The rooms and hallways often smell like weed. There is a destination fee that gives you a credit to use either in the restaurant, bar, or hotel shop, but the staff does not tell you about it cause they do not want you to use it. The hotel also recently changed what you can use that credit towards which is many things that most people won't use because they know it is saving them money. It makes me very sad to have to write this review but I have reached my wits end with how they treat me. I love the bar staff and the manager that works with them, but the rest of the staff for the front of the house is incredibly unhelpful as they abide by non typical Hilton rules. I'm not sure who the actual owner of this hotel is but this particular hotel does not function like a normal Hilton hotel at all. Hilton should I be ashamed to be associated with them. I travel multiple times a month for work and personal all throughout the year and I am not aware of any other Hilton property that acts like this. Incredibly disappointing..,.
This is my preferred hotel whenever I’m in the area for work. Rooms are clean and fairly large, decor is “modernish”, staff is polite and accommodating. But I especially love the proximity to the Dunkin lol. Lots of other good eateries around of course however the Berklee College of Music is close by so they tend to be flooded with college kids. Parking is expensive so keep that in mind.
Hotel is in the back bay section of Boston. Good area near Prudential Center and many restaurants. Fenway Park nearby. Staff very friendly and helpful. Watch for excessive security deposit at check in $150.00 per night. Rooms nice but color palettes make for a dark room. Lighting helps only slightly. Parking is $69.00 per night. Nice bar with limited menu.
Hilton Boston Back Bay is a large, well-located, slightly aging hotel in the Back Bay area of Boston. The location offers free access to many local sites, restaurants, and bars, which is a big plus. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. During the evening it was quiet and the higher floors offered nice evening and morning views. The hotel has a cozy lounge frequented by hotel guests with a nice selection of wines and other drinks ?? The cost of parking was $69 a night in Oct 2025, so this pricing should be considered if driving. Overall a solid, slightly pricey option, if focused on the hotel’s central location and walkability.
I had an excellent stay at the Hilton Boston Back Bay. This hotel is a fantastic choice for anyone visiting the city. The location is truly unbeatable; it's right in the heart of the Back Bay neighborhood, making it incredibly easy to walk to major attractions like the Prudential Center, Copley Square, and Fenway Park. Public transportation is also very accessible, which makes getting around the city a breeze. One of the standout features for me was the hotel's gym. It was well-maintained and had a great selection of equipment, perfect for getting in a solid workout while away from home. I was also impressed by how quiet the hotel was. Despite being in a bustling part of the city, the room was a peaceful retreat, allowing for a great night's sleep. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the overall experience was top-notch. I highly recommend the Hilton Boston Back Bay for its prime location, quality amenities, and serene atmosphere. It’s a quiet and comfortable haven in a vibrant city.
