The Residence Inn Boston Downtown South End consistently receives positive feedback for its spacious rooms, included breakfast, and convenient location near universities and dining options. However, recent reviews highlight concerns regarding parking fees, inconsistent service, and potential safety issues in the surrounding neighborhood, as well as challenges with booking and incidental charges.
So close to Northeastern University, China town, and close amenities with dining options. Rooms were very clean, staff was friendly, parking wa easy with valet and didn't take long to retrieve. Breakfast was very good, plentiful and breakfast area was clean. Bed was comfy and room was spacious. I stayed in king room suite.
The room and service were satisfactory. However, the presence of homeless individuals around the hotel was a concern. The main entrance was consistently closed, which was odd. Also A gunshot incident occurred near the hotel. It would be good for you to search for more information regarding this zip.
Generally I have been happy staying at this hotel. I stay here every other week for work. Recently they have a sign that you can't bring the breakfast to your room. Treat your customers like adults. We are not children. If you can't trust your customers then don't offer breakfast. Its a very boring breakfast anyway. The rooms are nice. but the kitchen lacks items.
Response to Owner: I would love to get in contact with someone who can help. You have my phone number and email because I have tried to contact you in the past to see if anyone can help. I have not received any response up until this google review. Even though I understand your decision, I still believe this is very unfair. I had to put in my birth information prior to booking, and it literally still let me book despite knowing my age. What if you were in my shoes? The money is already been sent so Expedia is unable to refund or provide any assistance. I hate how I am getting punished for being an inexperienced traveler. Please help. --- My friends and I were planning to visit the universities here for Spring Break. We are all college students from Purdue who wanted to see the academic atmosphere of other prestigous universities. I recommended Marriott to my friends since I had amazing experiences in the past (my parents are Marriott Members). We booked it with Expedia since we are new to traveling. Unfortunately, the minimum check-in age (21) wasn't specified during booking and we literally found out 30 MINUTES after booking. Almost all of the hotels we booked in the past were 18+ so we never thought that this would be an issue. (We are all 20 btw) Hotel has a VERY strict no-refund policy. Expedia reached out for a potential refund but got rejected. We tried calling front-desk but no help or consideration was provided. Paid for 3 nights. Lost 3 nights of money :(
Clean and refreshing rooms, delicious included breakfast, and very friendly front desk service. My only complaint is the $55 per night parking fee, which is quite expensive. Otherwise, a very nice hotel experience.
I stayed at the Residence Inn Boston Downtown/South End for five nights and had a very positive experience. The hotel strikes a great balance between homey comfort and convenient city access — ideal for extended stays or travelers who like extra space. Situated in the South End, it’s a short walk to dining, cafés, and boutique shops, and an easy quick ride to the Back Bay, Seaport, and downtown attractions. The neighborhood felt safe and pleasant for evening strolls. Room & Comfort I booked a studio suite — spacious, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully laid out with a full kitchen, dining area, and a comfortable seating/work space. The bed slept well, and blackout curtains helped with restful nights. Housekeeping was reliable and respectful of my schedule. Amenities The complimentary hot breakfast each morning was convenient and varied enough to keep things interesting during a longer stay. There’s a small gym and a handy guest laundry, both of which I used; they were clean and well-maintained. Free Wi?Fi was stable for work calls and streaming. Service Staff were friendly and professional from check-in to check-out. They provided local recommendations and handled a minor request quickly and helpfully. Value For the space, location, and included amenities (kitchen, breakfast), I found the hotel good value compared with downtown alternatives. Overall, I’d recommend the Residence Inn Boston Downtown/South End to business and leisure travelers who want comfortable, apartment-style accommodations with easy access to Boston’s main neighborhoods
This is a beautiful establishment, but I was disappointed with the lack of professionalism. The woman who I spoke to at the front desk was rude. She had a French creole accent and often spoke over me when I inquired about the incidental charge being removed from my account. However, the woman who I initially spoke to was Victoria who was very pleasant and quite professional. She told me that the incidental charge would be removed within 5 to 7 business days. A second inquiry resulted in an unpleasant interaction with this other woman who on two separate occasions, picked up the phone and didn’t announce having to place me on a hold instead I was immediately placed on hold. There was also some inconsistency because this individual told me that it can sometimes be up to 30 days before they remove the incidental charge from your account. When I asked to speak with a manager, this individual picked up the phone and didn’t acknowledge his name. I am not convinced that I even spoke with the manager because he took more of a vested interest in what the employee had say to him about my interactions with her that were falsified and in accurate. I stayed here last year for the first time and was quite impressed, But this second visit left a bad taste in my mouth. I am uncertain about returning to this establishment. if this matter is not rectified, I’ll be filing a formal complaint with the regional manager. If it wasn’t for the room being aesthetically pleasing and Victoria’s excellent customer service, I would have rated it a one.
Horrible experience, do NOT book at this hotel. I stayed here because my company recommended it for travel for work. I travel for work all the time, and really typically enjoy Marriott hotels. When I checked in the gentleman at the front desk was extremely kind, and the room was amazing. However, that's where the good notes end. For starters, the light in my room was broken and flickering late at night even though the switch was set to off (this started around 10:00 pm by the way, and I worked the next morning). When I called the front desk they sent someone up to my room from maintenance. He turned on the light, which stopped it from flickering, but this was a bright kitchen light directly across from my bed, so with it on I couldn't sleep. He told me that to actually fix it they would have to come take apart the light apparatus, which they couldn't do at night. I called the front desk to see if there was another room that I could stay in, and they told me there was nothing they could do and that their maintenance man had "Already fixed it." I told them it was still broken, and was responded to with a "So?". I ended up calling in to work the next day due to a horrible migraine from the flickering light. The water in the shower was also ice cold, for which they also sent up maintenance personnel and were able to correct within an hour. They only serve coffee in the mornings, and this would be fine if the coffee didn't run out by 8:00 am with no refills in sight (I timed it and was told that they were restocking but over half an hour later, no coffee). The front desk girls were incredibly rude. I called to ask if my sheets and towels could be changed on Thursday and was told that housekeeping had 'already left for the day' but that they would 'put me down for a full clean on Friday. Housekeepers were in the room next door. I informed the front desk that since the sheets had been changed the first time they were now breaking me out in hives, so they sent housekeeping by to drop off new sheets and towels (not switch them though, only set them down and leave). You might ask, how does housekeeping drop off towels if they're gone? I'm not sure either, probably magic. On Friday, getting back to my hotel I find that a 'full clean' means that housekeeping only visits the room to drop off more dish soap, leaving dirty sheets, dirty towels, and trash. The team for my work were in shock, and stated they'd be sure to NOT recommend this hotel for future business travel. I've provided photos (my videos wouldn't upload) for reference, and recommend staying away from this hotel if you have epilepsy, migraines, like warm showers, enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, or don't like breaking out in hives all night. UPDATE (due to manager response): Not at all, employees were even ruder after I extended another day. I only stayed because my flight did not allow me to switch hotels to one further away. Rest assured, I will not be staying here again.
Incredibly disappointed. $25/hour to check in early (even for Marriott members), lobby bar that is advertised isn’t open. Was told it’s only available for private events. The area is not pleasant to walk around at all. If you plan to stay here, don’t plan to walk around unless you want to dodge tons of needles. Manager hoped we enjoyed breakfast on our way out at least… I’m dairy free and there were no options available for allergens. Front desk agent at checkin was friendly and agreed that their policy for early checkin was not very hospitable.
We flew into Boston late one night and needed an easy hotel on the south side so we could get up and head to Cape Cod in the morning. I would not recommend this hotel. It must be right near a police station or ambulance launch station, so we heard sirens all night long. The windows were not very soundproof to begin with. Plus, one of our windows wouldn’t properly close, so we may was well have had it open, as far as noise reduction was concerned. The other issue is that valet parking was absurdly expensive. I get it, space is hard to come by in the northeast, but $55/night at an otherwise very moderately priced hotel seems insane. Finally, around 9:00 the next morning, the cleaning crew barged into our room without even announcing themselves. I get it if it’s near checkout time, but 9:00 is early for that, and they should ALWAYS announce.
