The Renaissance Boston Seaport District receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising its location, service, and comfortable rooms. However, several recent reviews highlight significant issues including aggressive upselling, inaccurate information regarding amenities, unresolved billing discrepancies, disruptive guest behavior, and inconsistent service from front desk staff. The hotel appears to struggle with consistently meeting guest expectations and resolving customer complaints effectively.
Came to use a hotel night that was set to expire. The hotel is ok - nothing exquisite but it works! Lap pool is 25 yards, but it's a single lane and not very deep. I swam a quick thousand yards before some kids came in with flippers masks and snorkels. Not much room for more than one to swim and I vacated to allow them some room for fun. One more note on the pool - because it's a single lane width with no lane lines, the pool feels a bit like swimming inside a washing machine with the waves bouncing off the sides of the pool. We ate the breakfast buffet, which was good with the exclusion of one moldy raspberry. Good service and a solid offering.
Booked a room through Expedia, paid Expedia for my room. Check into the hotel, they ask for a card for room charges and incidentals which is normal. After check out I see 3 separate charges to my card one for $442 another for $10 and a 3rd for $9. I found this pretty odd since I haven’t bought or ordered anything, I assumed the $442 was a room deposit but the other charges were strange. A few days later, I’m waiting for the hold to come off card but to my surprise it never did. Instead Renaissance Hotel went ahead and charged my card $462 after I already booked and paid through Expedia. That is theft plain & simple. If I never paid attention to my card and the charges they would’ve just stole $462 from me. I will NEVER book with the Renaissance Hotel ever again and I urge you not to as well. I actually was going to book seaport hotel or the Omni parker hotel but for some reason I went with Renaissance and I ultimately regret it! Never Again !!! Update ** - Reply to Owner There’s no need for me to contact the third party I booked from because it was your hotel that charged me a 2nd time after I already paid. Your hotel has issued me a full refund that I’ll receive in 5-7 business days which is a Huge inconvenience for me, but that’s my fault for booking with your terribly run hotel to begin with, Never Again !!!
Stayed for one night but had a good experience. Very close to airport. Restaurant in the lobby is pretty good with great service. Hotel has a lounge on the 20th floor, stocked with beverages and snacks. Room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Two minor quibbles. One, lack of s shuttle after being so close to the airport. Second, my room was next to the elevator and it can be s bit annoying with constant but low hum noise. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful hotel.
I have stayed at Renaissance Hotels many times and it has typically been my go-to when traveling with my husband or friends. Unfortunately, this past weekend was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Although we were placed on the 11th floor, which seemed perfectly fine, we were woken up at 1:00 AM by the adjoining room when a guest slammed the door upon returning. Around 2:00 AM, the situation escalated into hours of screaming, banging on doors, swearing, and what sounded like objects being thrown. The disturbance continued until nearly 5:00 AM. It was impossible to sleep. When I mentioned this at the front desk in the morning, I was asked if I had called security. I did not feel comfortable doing so, as I did not want the neighboring guests to know it was me who complained. The response I received was disappointing and dismissive — I was told they had “some complaints because it was Valentine’s weekend.” That explanation does not justify hours of disruptive behavior. I redeemed 50,000 points for this stay and received virtually no sleep in return. I expect much better service, professionalism, and guest care — especially at this level. Sadly, this experience has made me reconsider this as my go-to hotel.
When we arrived for a weekend stay with three grandchildren under the age of five, we were initially concerned that their energy might be overwhelming in such a beautiful hotel. From the moment we arrived, however, every staff member welcomed us with genuine kindness, warmth, and care. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for their exceptional hospitality and true sense of friendship. The security staff even gave my granddaughter a special gift pack thoughtfully prepared without peanuts, which meant so much to us. The front desk team greeted us each day with warm smiles and plenty of laughter, making our stay truly memorable. Thank you
The overall experience during my six night stay was positive. The location along Seaport was ideal for food and shopping choices and for a great walk along Seaport. My room in the 16th floor had a great view overlooking the water and a view of planes taking off from the airport. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was small in that you had to close the bathroom door to be able to open the shower door - not great for someone who prefers to keep bathroom door open while showering to avoid extra steam and heat in bathroom. The technology on the TVs could use an upgrade to allow screen sharing. Chromecast or apply play. The Starbucks attached to the hotel is solid - great staff, relatively quick, and recipes made right. The resort fee of 35$ includes a $20 credit at Starbucks or onsite restaurant which I utilized. I also took advantage of the two vouchers for free clam chowder and beverage at nearby delicious Yankee Lobster. It also included a ticket to Contemporary Art Museum - which I did get to visit. The vouchers needed to be picked up from The concierge and she was incredible. My service stars would have been a four because the front desk was good and did the job but nothing over the top from a first experience perspective. The concierge was incredible.
This is a very typical business hotel meant for people traveling for work and expensing everything through their company. I would not recommend staying here for a vacation. The entire surrounding area feels corporate, with generic hotels and restaurants—no character at all. The hotel itself is not up to the standard of a typical Renaissance. It’s just okay, nothing special or memorable. As a Titanium member, you do get lounge access, but it feels like the focus is more on selling drinks than actually taking care of loyal guests. There was very little complimentary food, which is disappointing considering guests easily spend thousands of dollars a year with Marriott. I had two packages delivered and was charged $5 for each for "handling" lol, which felt ridiculous. There is no free water in the room—you’re charged $5 per bottle—and the quality was noticeably better than the already water offered in the lounge. I usually opt out of housekeeping. On my third day, I received a call to my room that I missed. While I was in the shower, I heard loud banging on the door. When I came out, I found a staff member who had opened my door without my consent, despite the Do Not Disturb sign being clearly displayed. He said he was checking if I was okay, which I found extremely unusual and uncomfortable. Overall, this hotel is fine if you’re on a short work trip and don’t care much about the experience. Otherwise, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere.
On Sat 11/29 we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary which was on Sunday, 11/30/25. We stayed at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel in the Seaport area in Boston. Earlier in the day we emailed the hotel and told them that we had an anniversary coming out and we requested a room upgrade. Upon arrival, we were surprised to learn that we were given the presidential suite. The suite was on the 18th floor and provided magnificent views of Boston, MA. We headed out to dinner and when we returned, we found a bottle of red wine, 2 wine glasses, a platter of chocolate dipped strawberries, and a charcuterie board. We were very pleased with the upgrade and the extreme personal service that we received. The location of this hotel is very central and we will be back there for sure.
We had a great experience staying at this hotel, it was a gorgeous facility. Sheets were high quality, overall aesthetic was nice. We stored our luggage here before our evening flight, no complaints there. However, I called the front desk and requested an additional blanket. I expected room service to show up at some point, but they never did. People have told me this is just American hospitality, but I would expect a little more from a 4-star hotel.
This was a nice and very clean hotel. The room was nice and spacious. The location was near the convention center, about .5 mile walk. I loved being near the waterfront for the views and morning walks along the harbor. The staff at this hotel including the manager, Steven, were fantastic. The downsides of the stay were the following: There is no room service for breakfast or any other meals for that matter. The "destination" fees totaled over $40.00 nightly as there were taxes and fees on the fees.
