Studio Allston Hotel offers a vibrant urban experience in Boston's dynamic Brighton neighborhood. Located steps from Harvard University, this eco-certified hotel provides contemporary accommodations for travelers and academics.
The Studio Allston Hotel offers a convenient location near Boston universities and features a quirky, artistic vibe with amenities like a pool table and outdoor patio. Recent reviews highlight both positive experiences with friendly staff and helpful recommendations, as well as concerns regarding noise, bathroom privacy, and inconsistent service. Overall, it provides a decent value for a centrally located stay.
I stayed at this hotel recently. Location-wise, it is a good hotel for visiting local universities such a Boston Univ., Harvard and Boston College, and it is a short commute into Boston. The room was clean and room service was good. One major drawback had to do with the loud, sanitation depot next door. I woke up to the sounds of loud sanitation trucks at 5:00AM two of the days I was there. The hotel also tacked on a daily $35 facility fee, which was not listed when I booked my reservation. I would have preferred to see this fee upfront when I booked the room instead of being made aware of the charge and when I checked in. Finally, there are 2 wings to the hotel. If your room is located on a higher floor in the south wing, you'll have a tedious commute to the front desk and dining area, having to take one elevator to the second floor, walk down a long corridor and then take a second elevator to a higher floor of the south wing.
I found the hotel relatively difficult to find but that was mainly due to how Google Maps works in Boston. Once there, the parking lot walk to the main entrance is shabby. The parking lot sits across from a run down warehouse with broken windows and dumpsters which lowers the first impression. The lobby is cute and the pool table and restaurant area along with the patio (which we could not access due to weather) were clean, comfortable, and stylized. Upon checking in I learned that there was a parking fee in addition to the amount I booked the room for. My room was in the south studio all the way on the other end and there is no one there to offer to assist with luggage. Once in our room we found it to be tidy and the decor fit the vibe of the hotel. The bathtub was painted white and had gray stains on it which my daughter thought was dirt. (Room 240). The next morning we had to get in touch with guest services to ask a few questions. It took 5 separate calls because the previous attempts either went unanswered or the line was busy. Once we reached someone the gentleman was very kind. Breakfast was ok. Nothing special. Baked goods that came from a package, yogurt, bagels, etc.. No table service. It was an average experience. This was my first stay at Studio Allston, and it a was a great experience! I travel a lot, and don’t usually write reviews but everyone was incredibly helpful and welcoming. Parking was super convenient and the location was perfect for my needs. Shout out to all of the amazing staff who helped with recommendations, directions, and making my stay super comfortable as a solo traveler. Thank you to Jonathan and Melissa who were the managers who assisted me. Klara was incredibly warm and welcoming upon check in. Shout outs to Mollidy, Dezarae, Ashleigh, Lucas, and Ervens who were ready and willing to lend a helping hand whenever I had a question, or got turned around on my way to the lobby. Traveling alone can be nerve racking but these guys made my stay great! Will definitely be back.
Stayed here for a fencing tournament this weekend. The rooms, elevators, hallways are dated. Feels very dingy. Charged $115 for a pet fee. It’s extremely expensive considering how much other hotels are charging. The front desk staff members are friendly. We had some construction noise issues the second night and they waived the facilities fee when I complained. They said it’s winter maintenance. The complimentary breakfast was the worst I experienced in a hotel. The only hot food item was the hard boiled eggs. Considering they have an on site restaurant I wonder why they don’t provide better breakfast. We stayed here because it is walking distance from the fencing tournament. Location is great for that. I won’t stay here again though. It’s just too dingy.
What a find! Clean, spacious, attractive, comfortable, safe, and in an excellent location. Easily accessible from Mass Pike. Walkable area with plenty of reasonably priced ($15) onsite parking. Ample breakfast. Onsite Craft Food Halls a nice bonus. Weekend social hour provided free wine and charcuterie cups! Staff was friendly and honored our early check-in request. Perfect overnight for our recent trip to see a show at nearby (20 minute easy walk) Roadrunner. Will definitely return!
This hotel left me very underwhelmed. I would not stay here again. The lobby area is quite interesting with pool tables and access to beer kegs(?) but as soon as you step into the elevator all of that is quickly forgotten. My biggest issue was the lack of privacy with the bathrooms. Our room had a sliding door for the bathroom that does not close all the way, leaving about a 2.5” gaps on either side. Meaning you could be seen and heard doing your business from anyone you are staying with. You cannot adjust the temperature in your 75 degree room, but you can request a loud box fan if you need to cool off. The breakfast itself is mediocre and I couldn’t eat the two things I picked out because they tasted so bad. I don’t know what the red liquid (juice? flavored tea?) is supposed to be but like everything else here, it has been heavily watered down. The main outlets beside the bed were practically inaccessibility due to how close it was behind the bed and near the frame. I had to unplug everything on the bedside table just to access one outlet. All of the free outlets in our room did not work, one of us had to charge our phone in the bathroom. The only thing saving this place in my opinion is that it is decently clean and smells nice. If you don’t care much for privacy, comfortability or decent food.. you may also only have a decent stay.
The Studio Allston Hotel has seen better days, however it is still a kitchy, eclectic designed establishment that seems to make a decent effort at providing a decent stay. In my opinion, the location was great, as it is directly across the street from a park on the Charles River. The park has extensive walking/biking trails, crew boats, playgrounds, picnic areas and even has a small ampitheater among other amenities. There are restaurants within a reasonable distance and a McDonald's and a grocery store are across the street behind the hotel (parking is in the rear of the hotel so you can't miss them). The hotel appears to have been very trendy back in the early to mid 2000's, maybe even the late 90's, but it looks dated now. It gives off a Miami Vice sort of feel. It offers several amenities like a lounge area with a pool table and bar, a large, extensive outdoor patio area and they also give free Day Passes to the ultra-modern New Balance Fitness Center which is a short 3-4 minute drive or a 10-12 minute walk away. There is not enough parking available, so if the hotel is at capacity, Im not sure what they do to accommodate guests. Parking is somewhat of an inconvenience being in its present location, but its what they have and its free. The hotel charges a "resort fee" of around $35/day but it didnt feel like much of a resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room that I was in lived up to my mediocre expectations (after observing the lobby and hallways leading to the room and riding in a very old elevator. After getting my luggage to the room, I never rode the elevator again until the day I checked out). The furniture was dated,as were the decorations. However, it was very clean! The bed was made military-tight and I could've bounced a quarter off of it! One of the 2 biggest drawbacks was a vent in the bathroom near the ceiling which also led directly to the vent in the adjacent room. At night the occupants of the other room left the bathroom light on which shone brightly and eerily into the room that I was in. I dont think that there is a clear view into either room from the other one, but you could definitely hear people taking care of business and may have even been able to get a whiff if the stench were pungent enough. It gave me an uncomfortable feeling, so I was able to cover the vent with the stack of towels which were on the rack near the vent. The second issue was the shower curtain, which was old, worn and dingy beyond cleaning. It was long overdue for replacing. The view from the windows wasn't worth looking at due to the structures that are on either side of the hotel. Overall my stay was tolerable and not bad, but I doubt that I would choose ti stay there again.
My wife and I stayed here for 4 days any loved it! The staff were super friendly. The bed was big and comfy. Breakfast selection was relatively small but delicious. We loved our stay at Studio Allston.
My room was very nice and clean- it smelled great and the shower was spotless. I was very impressed with the white noise machine in the room, that did raise the bar for me. (It’s not super noisy but a little- the walls are more thin and you can hear most people walking by the room, but not anything disrupting) Dining room was a nice touch and the food was so good. The elevator didn’t sound safe and the morning front desk was not the most outgoing when I asked about grabbing a juice to go after breakfast hours, didn’t think it would be that serious but here they apparently take breakfast hours VERY Seriously….lmao I’d prob stay here again
A great place for family and couples. I loved the location and enjoyed the rooms. We didn't like the room that we first got because of the view. They offered us another room which was wonderful. I loved the artwork displayed in the room and found out that each room has different artwork. Cool! An inspirational hotel that encourages artistic expression. Will stay here again and have encouraged my friends and family to check it out.
