This Marriott property sees a split in guest experiences, ranging from professional service and quiet stays at the historic building to severe sanitation and safety concerns regarding cleanliness and lighting. With updates and renovations in progress, guests praise the accommodating staff, though others describe hostility, unsanitary rooms, and outdated facilities.
Staying here during the winter storm. The GM has been very accommodating and very nice guy. I would definitely recommend staying here it has been recently updated as well
I am extremely disappointed with the treatment I received at this Marriott property, particularly from Assistant General Manager Chevoni (Chev) Ormsby Johnson. Before I even reached the reception desk, her demeanor was dismissive and unwelcoming. She repeatedly insisted she could not assist me and told me I needed to print documents elsewhere because the business center was closed. As an out-of-town guest with nowhere else to go at that hour, I calmly explained my situation and asked for help. Rather than attempting any solution, she denied assistance outright and continued to speak to me in a rude and condescending manner. At one point, she abruptly grabbed my ID from my hand in a way that felt aggressive and demeaning, as if I were being treated like a criminal rather than a paying guest. I have stayed at many Marriott properties—often higher-tier locations—and have never experienced this level of hostility or lack of hospitality. When I asked for her name, she stated it and pointed to her badge in a confrontational manner rather than de-escalating the situation or offering professional service. Ultimately, I was forced to return to my car to find an alternative solution and remembered I had Bonvoy points. I redeemed points for a free night. something that should have been a straightforward, respectful interaction from the start. Even during check-in, she continued making unnecessary comments, including stating she would place me “far on the other side,” which felt punitive and unprofessional.
One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Absolutely unacceptable. We stayed here over Christmas 2023 and were forced to change rooms four times due to serious health and cleanliness issues. Two different rooms on two different floors had cigarette smoke pouring into the room through the vents, making them uninhabitable. At one point we were moved into a room with a couch that was soaked in urine. The pee smell was unmistakable throughout the room and was coming from the couch. At that point, after already moving multiple times, we asked if the couch could simply be replaced instead of uprooting us again. The front desk attendant flatly refused and forced yet another room change. When we tried to move the urine-soaked couch out ourselves because we were exhausted and no one would help, the same staff member threatened to call the police on us. In the final room, the cigarette smoke issue still persisted, but we gave up and slept with the windows open in freezing winter temperatures because we could not handle moving yet again. The staff throughout this ordeal were hostile, dismissive, and showed zero concern. This felt like staying in a run-down roadside motel, not a Marriott hotel. This property should be investigated by the health department. Between the urine-soaked furniture, pervasive cigarette smoke, and staff behavior, this was disgraceful. Management should be ashamed. I would strongly advise avoiding this hotel.
I arrive and pull my bags out of the car to check in. Interestingly there were only a few cars in the parking lot. When I get to the front desk, the agent seemed seriously bothered that there was somebody trying to check in. Interestingly, I get put at the farthest spot away from the front door possible. Not sure why considering there were few cars in the parking lot. Nonetheless, no explanation provided… So I walk down a long, dead hallway to my room. I get to my room and it smells like cat pee. The stench suggests no one has been in this room for a long time. Everything I touch in my room is dirty including the drinking glasses that I was hoping to use. They were filthy with lipstick, grease and God knows what else. I pick up the ice bucket and there is some sort of funky grease inside the lid. There’s also dried toothpaste on the lid. See attached pictures. I reported this to the same agent at the front desk. No reply other than that she was going to “report it.” Not, “how can I make it better for you?” or “would you like to switch rooms?” Instead I got an arrogant, bothered attitude. How can Marriott put their name on service like this? Word to the wise: stay away from this hotel.
Edit Update: The manager called me to apologize and explain the lighting situation (in my original review I was horrified by the parking lot lighting bc it was pitch black and treacherous). I really appreciated that. He admitted they tried to mitigate the issue but never found a good solution. My suggestion was to put a photocopied sign on the access doors and perhaps the elevator/stairs, at the front desk, simply saying we are aware of the lighting situation and apologize for any inconvenience. This way the guests are aware of the anomaly. No need to slip a note under every door but any access point could have had a notification. The manager also let me know the renovations were about to start and would be done by January; which is insane. I would not hesitate to stay here again bc of how quiet it was and the cleanliness of the room I had. But I certainly will enjoy it more once renovations are completed.
Lovely hotel with great staff. I was there for a wedding weekend. We had all of our meals in the hotel. The space and the service were excellent. The staff is extremely professional and courteous. I observe the Jewish Sabbath and needed some help over the course of the day. The team was so accommodating. Specials thaanks to Jen, Kerri, Jules, and Kempas.
I booked a wedding block here for my wedding, and Nichole was very helpful with the logistics. I also booked the conference room to get ready as our bridal suite. It was a great size and allowed us to get ready and enjoy. Highly recommend if you need a hotel to book here with friendly, helpful staff and a convenient location.
Room is comfortable and clean. The Bistro has friendly staff who go out of their way to accommodate. Gave us coffee early before opened. Estuardo made a delicious breakfast flatbread for us just as they were closing and did it with a smile! Centrally located in Norwood for restaurants and activities.
This is a great hotel for what it is. Big, clean rooms. QUIET. Tons of parking. And the staff/ crew are SO nice and accommodating. I do wish the "Starbucks" had better hours but other than that, highly recommended. THANKS GUYS.
Had a nice stay. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The first morning, so far, the breakfast staff called out of their shift so there was no breakfast. The manager did resolve this by offering us other alternatives. The first flood ice machine was out of order but the 2nd and 3rd floors had working ones.
