The Porter Square Hotel offers a convenient location in Cambridge, with easy access to public transportation and local amenities. While many guests appreciate its cleanliness, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff, a significant concern revolves around restricted internet access due to blocked VPN connections. Value is generally good for the area.
Unfortunately I can't recommend this hotel, they block lots of perfectly normal network traffic (VPNs like Wireguard, Mullvad, Tailscale, iOS private relay, etc) and SSH/git. There's no good reason to do this. Obviously I can tether to my phone, that's not the point. I will update this review if this changes, but I don't expect front desk people to be able to resolve a complicated networking issue like this so I'm leaving this here in case anyone is looking for a place to stay and expects to get work done.
Stayed for two nights while visiting my partner in Cambridge. Hotel offered everything I needed. Great room, good ambiance, great views and spacious for two people
Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. I booked this hotel for one week and faced many issues with the internet. It is very restricted and does not allow VPN connections, which was a major problem for me. Additionally, the staff were not friendly at all, they seemed uninterested, showed zero empathy, and did not try to help. Because of these issues, I had to cancel my stay.
Room is decent for a 3 star hotel. 2 min walk from major subway / bus station. Front desk wasn't super friendly.
Very nice room hotel and location. I didn't have much interaction with the staff but only friendly. One night the heating was not sufficient though.
Very clean, compact, comfortable room. Nice coffee maker. Clever use of space for storage. Excellent location literally across the street from the railway station. Helpful staff. Small business centre downstairs with internet access. Attached restaurant looks good but I didn't go so cannot comment.
We had a wonderful stay at Porter Square Hotel! The location is excellent and very convenient. Just a short walk from the hotel is Prisha Esthetician Salon, which made it so easy for my wife to get her waxing and manicure done during our trip. She even tried threading for the first time there and had an awesome experience. The combination of a comfortable hotel stay and having such great services nearby made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend both!
Nice and friendly staff, awesome location! Very close to Red Line subway station, just few stops from the downtown. Excellent neighborhood: many shops, caffes, Target, pharmacy, dining options in close vicinity. Rooms are clean and cosy, but quite small. Modern interior decoration.
Super underrated hotel, (not from the area) but based off of reviews i can say this was great to stay the parking was very cheap i believe it was 30-40 for a night and yes you can come in and out whenever you’d like valet is super attentive and very quick, i have no complaints when im in a hotel as long as the room is neat and parking is accessible i dont care for breakfast or anything else. But for sure super clean and it was a nice place to stay quiet area and lots of things to do around the area.
One redline subway station away from Harvard Square or a 25 minutes walk. The room size and bed size are both smaller than most standard rooms but the staff were nice and helpful. They even gave me CharlieCard to charge at the subway station!
