The Boston Marriott Newton Hotel receives mixed reviews, with some praising its convenient location, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms, particularly during the holiday season. However, recurring concerns involve outdated facilities, high prices for amenities like parking and drinks, and occasional issues with cleanliness and maintenance, including bugs and noticeable wear and tear.
I have stayed here before so when I was in the area I thought of it again. However what I was given as a receipt and what I was changed are different amounts. Of course the lesser amount is on the receipt and the higher is taken right out of my account. Please advise as I need some assistance here!!! The room bummed me out cause I was using the amenities in the room attached to the shower which if you’re in the shower and one doesn’t work you are SOL. That happened for me but it was too late…..the property is pretty run down and I would not describe this as luxury. In the fitness center a button on the water machine broke that could be a small improvement to upgrade things. Common areas look okay but the rooms are more of a budget type place. The bed was comfortable but I was nervous after reading other reviews who found bugs. Finally, paying for parking here is outrageous. $24 for a night. Yikes. Was it an ok stay yes. Does it need to be stepped up ..?most definitely!!!
The employees were great but the hotel is showing it's age. The rug in my room was old and stained to the point that I would not dare walk around the room without my shoes on. Sort of gross and not what I'm used to in my Marriott stays. The door frame in the bathroom also showed visible signs of rust even though the hotel had tried to cover it up wit multiple coats of paint. What really bothered me the most though, and why I took away the stars, was the blatant greed of the hotel bar during the event that I was attending there. I just wanted a plain soda and as I approached the bar I saw a sign stating that sodas were $4. I thought that $4 for a 12oz can was a bit expensive but I realized that I am a "captive audience" and that as such, the prices would be higher than normal. I got that. Much to my surprise, shock, and anger, the $4 price was NOT FOR THE WHOLE CAN, but for just 4 ounces!! Seriously! The bartender opened a can of ginger ale and poured it into a 7oz glass that had 3oz of ice in it. So lets do the math.....they charge $4 for 4 ounces of ginger ale. That's $1/oz. For a 12oz can they are charging $12! To add insult to injury, they also had a tip jar out! Seriously? You are ripping us off blind and STILL want a tip? Wow. More pathetically, they charged $10 for a bottle of beer. For $5 more I can get a whole 12-pack in my town. Again, I get it. We are "captive audiences" and therefore somehow corporate America thinks it's ok to scalp and radically overcharge for food and drinks. Where I'm going with this is the fact that the Boston Marriott Newton actually charges more for soda than it does for a beer! a 120z can of ginger ale is $12. A 12oz bottle of Ultra? $10. Ask yourself, when was the last time that you paid more for a soda than a beer. This is not ok Marriott....
Brisa is a wonderful front desk representative. She helped us with all of our questions and we really appreciate her genuine desire to make sure we had what we needed. Thank you for having such a wonderful person on staff she is a person I would want to represent my organization.
I made a mistake when I reserved the room.. Jeremia fixed the issue and then made us Is customer of the day. Top notch customer service. When I come to Boston , I will not stay anywhere else.
This place is the real deal. Completely decked out for Christmas when I was there (Dec 24) and amazingly great service in spite of the major holiday. Room with a view 651 and a great site of snowing on the Charles River through a tree - a very peaceful moment was found. The beds are top notch, the shower could have been a little better but water pressure was good and overall the room as quaint and cozy - a super stay. I ate breakfast as well which was pricey but delicious. Overall this place is A+ and I'd definitely recommend and stay here again!
My daughter and I stayed here on a recent college visit. Housekeeping used their key to enter my room unannounced at 8:30 AM. We were set to check out that day, and instead of respecting that and waiting, they came in without even announcing who they were. I’ve stayed at hotels all over the country, and I’ve never had this happen before. The hotel ignored the issue, and even when Priceline contacted them, they did not respond. This is unacceptable and unsafe. I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation at all.
Satisfactory, but no longer a crown jewel The Newton Marriott is a large hotel/motel more than 50 years old. It’s near routes 128, I-95 and I-90, but as of late November 2025 there is construction at the nearby highway interchange resulting in some inconvenience. The architecture is somewhat brutalist. The good points: The staff is knowledgeable and courteous; service at all levels is excellent. The rooms are clean and everything works. Happily, there is no stereotypical hotel odor in the rooms or corridors. The restaurant food is good albeit with a rather limited menu. For dinner, I had boneless beef short ribs, low fat in a nice jus sauce; my wife had an exquisite Italian wedding soup along with generous, meaty wings. The breakfast bar (included in the room rate) is comprehensive, and I see no need to order any additionally priced items. We enjoyed a very nice though expensive Thanksgiving buffet brunch. There is a resident swan in the river behind the hotel, visible from the rooms on our side. The weak points: Rooms have refrigerators but no microwaves; there is only one customers’ microwave in the hotel, located in a corner of the top floor. Although the rooms are adequately renovated, you can find a bit of wear and tear in corners. Rooms contain a comfortable desk chair, but the accompanying “lounge” chair (see photo) is uncomfortable.
We decided on this Marriott due to its distance from Boston and its proximity to the junction of freeways. It’s a very nice location on the Charles river. The staff are great. However, the hotel is old and it shows. It’s a four star on paper only and that is with some cosmetic updates. It’s an old layout of hotel rooms. Almost motel like. It is clean. The housekeeping is good. Unfortunately we came during moving day weekend and people were walking around talking loud at 2am in the hallways and someone brought a typical yappy little dog that reacted to everything. No fault of the hotel or the staff, just inconsiderate folks who belong at 2 star motels.
The room is clean and neat. I wish if they could provide a kettle in the room to boil water for some cup of tea. Prices are reasonable for the location and the view. Kayaking is just next door "5 minutes walk" which I enjoyed very much.
This being a Marriott, the hotel is decent as usual. But considering the price of over 200 per night nothing to rave about, overpriced in my opinion. The food is good, the location is great of course, the service is good, and the rooms are clean. No complaints. The facility itself is outdated and worn, however, in need of renovation in many respects. My room had a football size bubble on the popcorn ceiling, right over the bed, lol, the only place I am guaranteed to stare at the ceiling. Previous water damage left to be there for every guest. The elevators are tiny and can't handle the number of guests. It's a decent place overall and probably an awesome one for the Boston crowd, but my expectations were greater considering the rates.
