The Courtyard by Marriott - Boston Cambridge offers a convenient location near the Charles River and colleges, with positive feedback on staff friendliness and comfortable rooms. However, recent reviews highlight issues with billing discrepancies, pest problems, inconsistent service levels, and outdated facilities.
Booked a last minute trip to Boston to support a family member at a local sports tournament and wanted to stay close to the City. This was could not have been more of a perfect location. I checked in yesterday afternoon and Mostafa at the front desk was extremely kind and made the process easy. The view of the Charles River from the room was so nice!
My booking confirmation stated free parking and that the $32 destination fee would not apply. Parking was not free and I was charged the $32 destination fee. My total booking confirmation price and checkout price was $75 different excluding the parking. The hotel sells parking spots at a discounted price on SpotHero. Patrons staying here have to pay more to park then someone not even staying at the hotel, great customer loyalty and appreciation. The bathroom ceiling in the room looked like it had suffered water damage recently. The bathroom was also dimly lit.
I have been here multiple times and stayed because the location was great. It was clean enough and the front desk person I have known after repeated visits was very nice and helpful. However, after this last time of having a mouse on my room I am done. I have not been called by the management. I was told they may contact me by email. The only email I received was a generic "take a survey". No compensation , and no call from management to apologize having to move rooms late at night. Sadly I will never go back.
This experience was incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. Before booking, we proactively called this hotel to confirm that my partner’s service animal would be allowed. We were explicitly told yes. Based on that confirmation, we proceeded with our plans. However, when my partner called again to reconfirm closer to our stay, we were suddenly told that the service animal would not be allowed. This directly contradicts what we were previously told and violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which clearly permits service animals in hotels and other public accommodations. Service animals are not pets, and denying access is not optional or a matter of hotel policy. The reversal caused unnecessary stress and disruption, especially given that we did everything right by confirming in advance. This situation reflects a serious lack of staff training, consistency, and understanding of disability rights. Guests should not be put in the position of having to re-explain federal law or worry that previously confirmed accommodations will suddenly be revoked. Until this hotel properly trains its staff on ADA compliance and treats guests with disabilities respectfully and consistently, I cannot recommend staying here.
The location for this hotel is fantastic. It is centrally located with a great view of the Charles river. Rooms are a bit old but not too bad. My main concern was with billing department \front desk. There was a false charge of $14 on my invoice from the hotel restaurant. I called in twice for this. Every time the person said that he will call back but never happened. I called the hotel for a third time and selected Accounts department but no one picked up. I have never experienced such bad service from any of the Marriot hotels. Deeply disappointed
The room was nice, the location was good, but don't even get me started on the breakfast. $7 for a bowl of cereal? Ridiculous. We also requested, very politely might I add, for extra pillows. Days later, no pillows were delivered. If it wasn’t for the outrageous breakfast prices and our request for extra pillows was ignored, I would give 5 stars.
We stayed at the Courtyard for the Head of the Charles Regatta at Harvard. It is the perfect location as it is right on the river, and about a 20 minute walk along the river path to get there. Our room had a lovely view of the river and the boats, with lots of natural light. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Shout out to Shaon as he went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful! He deserves a major kudos! Thank you!! Daley (sp) and Sandra were super kind and helpful as well as the manager of housekeeping, who we met in the hall. There were two other associates who responded to my requests at night that were so nice (I'm sorry I didn't get their names). I would highly recommend this hotel as it is away from the crowds and in a quiet location, but still on the river. The main draw, however, are the wonderful employees who really made our stay fantastic! Thank you all!
Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price The hotel is conveniently located near colleges, but it’s definitely not worth the steep price—certainly not under $200 per night as advertised. We paid over $600 for a single night in a king room, which was incredibly dated, smelled of mold (thankfully the window opened), and had a poorly cleaned bathroom with hair and stains on the walls and counter. I always travel with disinfectant wipes, but at this price point, I shouldn't have to use them. Mini refrigerator and those never cleaned one-cup coffee pots in rooms. Check-in staff were pleasant and professional—I'd give 5 stars for their service alone. Unfortunately, a different shift at the front desk was noticeably less helpful and seemed unfamiliar with basic procedures. Dining options were disappointing. The Japanese Steakhouse closes at 9:00 PM, and the bistro/café (open from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM) offered low-quality food. Bacon was see-through, sausage rubbery, and no custom orders allowed. Staff in the café were unfriendly, and food was not kept fresh. On the plus side, the AC worked well, they offer a conference room, laundry facilities, and free coffee in the lobby when available. But those amenities don’t justify the outrageous price for such a subpar experience. Would not stay again.
I am very disappointed on the stay this time. I've not had a bad experience with marriott previosly and that's why I've continued to choose this hotel chain. But this time I'm left extremely disappointed and will not be choosing this location again. The reasons : 1. AC was not working properly 2. TV and remote were not connecting and neither was the netflix option 3. There was a bug in the room 4. The phone does not work. It does not connect to anyone or anything. 5. This location is not worth the $32 additional charger but I appreciate the sushi bistro coupons to compensate for it. But the food was sub par.
Love the location! You have Trader Joe's right next to the hotel and Whole Foods is a 5 minute walk along the river , so a beautiful walk. I have to sometimes travel solo for work and I felt safe. Staff is super nice and the house keeping is the best.
