The Courtyard by Marriott - Boston Cambridge receives mixed reviews, with some praising its convenient location and helpful staff, while others cite issues with inconsistent AC, outdated facilities, and unacceptable cleaning practices. Several reviews mention a distant relationship to public transportation and higher-than-expected costs.
The AC is either set to full cold or full heat. We called the front desk and the only solution is to have security come completely power off the unit. The showers are pretty old and poorly lit. Otherwise it's a great location! Hopefully they will renovate soon, we probably won't stay here again until they do.
I DID NOT ENJOY MY STAY DO NOT BOOK HERE!! The rooms were pretty spacious but you cannot control the ac thermostat which was insane to me it gets super cold and I couldn’t turn on the heater, the only option was to turn off the ac. Which I had to call someone from their maintenance team to do because it’s blocked off…. Also not sound proof at all I could hear people next to me. The front desk people are nice. The gentleman with the long hair and black male were very polite. However, the reason I gave 1 star is because their cleaning ladies kept breaking into my room even when I have the do not disturb sign out. Literally every single day of my stay they came in when I had that sign out and I did not want them to come in. This was my breaking point because why would you come in if I specifically do not want you to disturb me. Please train your cleaning staff better to respect people’s privacy!!! I talked to the front desk people but I’m writing a review to warn everyone planning to book. I was taking a nap from a long day and this cleaning lady entered when I have the sign out like can you not read??EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY STAY! The location of the hotel is actually quite far from public transit. It’s a 20-30 minute walk to the station if you are planning to use the subway. You have to uber everywhere if you’re not willing to walk and some days I just gave up. The breakfast was also bad but at least it was free. I didn’t like that they don’t have just plain eggs, that have to add tomato’s, onions, and other vegetables to their eggs. The waffles were soggy, sausage was just sad and gross. I just got the packaged greek yogurt after that because it was so gross.
Summary: good hotel, location isn't great so plan to Uber mostly. Review: No complaints, room was clean and not well worn or anything. Our room had a view of the Charles river which was nice. We didn't try the Japanese restaurant. When we stayed we got a card for a 32 dollar credit each day at either the japanese restaurant or the breakfast, we did the breakfast and it was good, breakfast sandwiches were good, and they had a buffet and juices and fruit. And it's good they had that because the one downfall is the location. There is a whole foods and trader Joe's, but the other restaurants are limited. There's some on a street up north so you might have to walk 10 mins or so which isn't a big deal but it's limited choices. Most restaurants are about a 20 min walk east where the red line train runs. The hotel isn't near any of the train lines either. Fenway is like a 40 min Walk which was fine for me. But other than that I recommend this hotel if the location works for you.
Booked a last minute trip to Boston to support a family member at a local sports tournament and wanted to stay close to the City. This was could not have been more of a perfect location. I checked in yesterday afternoon and Mostafa at the front desk was extremely kind and made the process easy. The view of the Charles River from the room was so nice!
My booking confirmation stated free parking and that the $32 destination fee would not apply. Parking was not free and I was charged the $32 destination fee. My total booking confirmation price and checkout price was $75 different excluding the parking. The hotel sells parking spots at a discounted price on SpotHero. Patrons staying here have to pay more to park then someone not even staying at the hotel, great customer loyalty and appreciation. The bathroom ceiling in the room looked like it had suffered water damage recently. The bathroom was also dimly lit.
I have been here multiple times and stayed because the location was great. It was clean enough and the front desk person I have known after repeated visits was very nice and helpful. However, after this last time of having a mouse on my room I am done. I have not been called by the management. I was told they may contact me by email. The only email I received was a generic "take a survey". No compensation , and no call from management to apologize having to move rooms late at night. Sadly I will never go back.
This experience was incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. Before booking, we proactively called this hotel to confirm that my partner’s service animal would be allowed. We were explicitly told yes. Based on that confirmation, we proceeded with our plans. However, when my partner called again to reconfirm closer to our stay, we were suddenly told that the service animal would not be allowed. This directly contradicts what we were previously told and violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which clearly permits service animals in hotels and other public accommodations. Service animals are not pets, and denying access is not optional or a matter of hotel policy. The reversal caused unnecessary stress and disruption, especially given that we did everything right by confirming in advance. This situation reflects a serious lack of staff training, consistency, and understanding of disability rights. Guests should not be put in the position of having to re-explain federal law or worry that previously confirmed accommodations will suddenly be revoked. Until this hotel properly trains its staff on ADA compliance and treats guests with disabilities respectfully and consistently, I cannot recommend staying here.
The location for this hotel is fantastic. It is centrally located with a great view of the Charles river. Rooms are a bit old but not too bad. My main concern was with billing department \front desk. There was a false charge of $14 on my invoice from the hotel restaurant. I called in twice for this. Every time the person said that he will call back but never happened. I called the hotel for a third time and selected Accounts department but no one picked up. I have never experienced such bad service from any of the Marriot hotels. Deeply disappointed
The room was nice, the location was good, but don't even get me started on the breakfast. $7 for a bowl of cereal? Ridiculous. We also requested, very politely might I add, for extra pillows. Days later, no pillows were delivered. If it wasn’t for the outrageous breakfast prices and our request for extra pillows was ignored, I would give 5 stars.
We stayed at the Courtyard for the Head of the Charles Regatta at Harvard. It is the perfect location as it is right on the river, and about a 20 minute walk along the river path to get there. Our room had a lovely view of the river and the boats, with lots of natural light. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Shout out to Shaon as he went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful! He deserves a major kudos! Thank you!! Daley (sp) and Sandra were super kind and helpful as well as the manager of housekeeping, who we met in the hall. There were two other associates who responded to my requests at night that were so nice (I'm sorry I didn't get their names). I would highly recommend this hotel as it is away from the crowds and in a quiet location, but still on the river. The main draw, however, are the wonderful employees who really made our stay fantastic! Thank you all!
