Hotel 1868 receives mixed reviews, with significant concerns about bed bug infestations recurring despite hotel investigations. However, many guests praise its convenient location near public transport, its thoughtfully designed smaller rooms, and friendly staff. Value is considered good, particularly for shorter stays.

Bed Bugs!! This is a very charming little hotel with a nice gym and business center and I was really enjoying my stay until I got COVERED in bug bites in the middle of February. I reported it to the hotel and they appeared to take the allegations very seriously. However after their investigation they concluded that there were no bed bugs. I also see another review from a few weeks prior reporting bed bugs where they also investigated and said there were none. I'm writing this review because they have failed to take action on a very serious issue and other customers have a right to know. I have done zero other travel in at least a month or two and had no other opportunities for exposure. The only place i've been other than my house is this hotel and both my partner and i were COVERED in bites. Mine showed up immediately while I was still at the hotel and I had a severe allergic reaction - they were the most intensely itching bites I have ever experienced. My partner's bites showed up 5 or so days later which is very typical with bed bug bites. Regardless of their investigations, at least 3 people have experienced severe bites while staying at this hotel so beware.

We’ve been traveling to Boston quite frequently for medical care at Mass General. Rather than dealing with pricey parking and navigating never ending hospital construction, we’ve been staying outside the area and taking the T. This was the first time staying at this hotel and it is now my favorite Boston area option. First, the location is outstanding, right across from the station (about 18 minutes to MGH). The area offers great restaurants and shops. The hotel rooms are just a bit small but the beds are comfortable, there’s water and a Keurig in the room, the bathroom counter has room to unpack toiletries, and the shower head is amazing. The rates are also reasonable. Lastly, the staff is not only friendly and helpful, but they are kind.

Small & convenient hotel situated nearby Harvard Square and Porter Square. They have valet service. You cannot self park in their small lot. Stayed for 1 night. The room I was situated in was the cheapest room rate available. Small room with standing shower and one chair on the side. The bed sheet consisted of a comforter and that’s it. No thin sheet under it. Typical 2/3 star hotel ambiance. Good decor. The standing shower did not have a good water shield such that there was a small puddle in the bathroom each time a 3+ minute shower was taken. It felt like a lower end hotel with the exterior of a nicer 3 star hotel. Good cheap rate. No kitchen or breakfast offerings but you are in Porter Square so you should find something nearby. Would come back if I stayed in Boston for at most 2 nights.

BED BUGS! The hotel itself was in a great location, well decorated, and seemingly clean. After staying two nights, I woke up with bed bug bites all over my face, arms, and back. After reporting to the hotel, they were less than accommodating and said it would take days to investigate the room to see if there was any evidence of bedbugs. Yikes, for whoever is staying there currently.

New, small-room hotel right across Mass Ave from the Porter Square station entrance. Not a POD style exactly, but modern and small. And in 2025 everything is very new. Great amenities including new gym equipment and business center, on-demand filtered H2O downstairs, etc. Staff is very helpful and attentive. For a business trip or a couple, this is an Excellent hotel choice. I'm unsure of the all rooms available, but small-room hotels might be tough with kids (YMMV). For a business trip, or a quick visit to a kid attending school in Cambridge, then this is an A++ option. Porter Square is a nice, walkable neighborhood in Cambridge; so the eats around the hotel are predictably amazing. The coffee shop in the same building is great. A definitely recommended place to stay.

This is my go-to for the Boston area and I hesitated to put this glowing review online because I'm worried my best-kept secret might get out of the bag and result in their rates increasing! But honestly, they deserve all the business they can get. I will try to keep it to the basics: beautiful modern yet cozy design meets functionality in one of the best designed rooms I have ever stayed at; slight smaller Queen is affordable and perfect with lots of storage that is amazingly nooked in (that excellent design again - they should honestly get an awared for this). For those unfamiliar with the Boston area, being in Porter Square is an *excellent* alternative to staying in the much more expensive Harvard Square and a short T-ride and you're in the heart of Boston! Thank you for a great stay and see you next time!!!

It was a good hotel, the staff were welcoming and are available 24/7. The rooms were fairly fresh and modern, there was no fridge and the TV, although large, did not support Netflix or YouTube apps. It was possible to mirror the screen from a phone but only for Samsung phone. Long story short, the TV needs an upgrade. The shower was not super convenient as it didn’t have a shower handle and only had the one pouring from above, and there was no good water shield installed so the water was all over the place. Also the water was softened so washing the soap off was difficult but maybe it’s better for the skin. They didn’t provide any body lotion but the other toiletries were fine. The room was spacious, the bed was reasonably comfortable. The valet parking was convenient even though you have to pay for it. Overall I can recommend this hotel if you can get it at a reasonable price - the commute to the city center is quite quick and easy with the subway.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Hotel 1868! The location is excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Prisha Esthetician Salon just a short walk away. Since I was traveling alone, it felt like the perfect chance to treat myself. I went in for waxing, and on the esthetician’s recommendation, I tried full-face threading for the first time—it turned out to be an amazing experience! It was such a relaxing way to make my trip even more enjoyable. Having the salon so close by was incredibly convenient. I highly recommend both the hotel and the salon!

Glad I chose this hotel! Nearby public transportation, though the bus/train schedule is not as frequent, it's easy to book ride hailing apps. I like how clean and quaint the hotel is. Love the quiet area.

Thank you to Michelle and to the rest of the friendly staff. This has been or second time staying on our annual family visit. We love coming here. It’s close to everything we desire. Got the T, the local squares with all the great food options. Friendly accommodations are why we will be back again. Thanks again to Michelle for everything.
