The Battery Wharf Hotel offers a waterfront location in Boston and boasts some positive reviews, particularly regarding room views and service. However, recent feedback highlights significant issues with room quality, service responsiveness, and fulfillment of booking expectations, alongside concerns about cleanliness and value. Overall, the experience appears inconsistent.
We had a beautiful room with a view of the wharf which was great. Price was reasonable for the view and location. Only marked down because issue with our car and valet and it took a moment to find it lol. Other than that we enjoyed the bar as well.
We had a room with a view so higher marks for that. Most side rooms really don't have one. Clean hotel. Friendly check-in staff. Great bartender. Overall good/great stay.
I booked a 2 night stay here earlier in the month for a two queen premier water view. While traveling to get there, I got caught in snow the day of my check in and wouldn't safely be able to make it. I called the hotel and asked if I could modify my reservation to cancel one of the days. They said it was too late and that I would still be charged for the entire two days. I was fine with that since they were correct on that. The reservation person asked me when I would be there the next day and I said it would be in the evening. When I arrived the next day, my expectation was that I was going to get my room I paid for. Instead they put me and my family on the second floor, right above the sliding doors that shook the room when they opened. In addition to this, the room only had 1 king bed and no water view. I went to the front desk to ask why I was not given my room I paid for and they apologized and offered to get me a rolling bed and move me to another room with just one king bed and a water view. The workers at the front desk were still polite and tried their best to help me, but there were no more rooms that had 2 queens. They did only charge me for the one night in the end, but I feel like this was handled poorly in that I held up my end of the bargain and was going to pay for the 2 nights with no fuss, only to be disappointed that I did not get the room I paid for. Again, the staff were great and tried to do their best. I just think they double sold my room and couldn't accurately explain the rationale behind why I was not getting it when I arrived.
This hotel is situated right know the bay in the north end. Only about 1/2 a mile from the freedom trail and many sites to see in Boston. Its super walkable and seemed like a safe area. The service was excellent. The room was clean. The shower was lovely. Our only complaint was the lack of bedside lamps but that's a small complaint. Overall it was a great stay.
Battery Wharf was not what I expected. When you view the hotel from the pictures you expect that your gonna get a good view of the water or even of the surrounding area. We asked for a room on a higher floor when we got there. The guy at the counter said that's not gonna be possible. We got the first floor. The guy did not seem to be happy and it was a bad start. The rest of the staff was great though. Our room was over looking the docks. But you could not really see anything because there were bushes blocking our view of anything. I would cut those bushes down so the guests could see out th windows. Overall other then that the rooms were decent. Liked the location as it was closed to most of the things we wanted to go to and see. All within short walking distance.
Not sure how this is a 4 diamond hotel. I don’t usually leave reviews but I had to this time. Ripped wallpapers, old decors, and sub-par service. Booked with Amex travel w/ Platinum benefits, no upgrades nor late check-out. Front desk lady who was pregnant (didn’t even have her name tag) was the rudest hospitality worker I experienced this year. Valet took forever so I asked the lady again, she said “you only waited 10 minutes - usually takes 15-20 minutes.” We were the only guest waiting for our car. Only Brett, who assisted us during our check-in, was nice. Location was good. But that was pretty much it. Will not return.
No ice machine in our hotel, #5. Requested ice from the front desk, waited for an hour, then gave up. Needed to go ourselves later in main building on 2nd floor in a closet, not marked. Had to go back down to the main desk to ask again. Went to the restaurant for dinner. Bartender was not attentive at all. Ordered meals, soup came within 30 minutes, rest of meal did not come, after an hour and 15 minutes requested it to go. Bartender came over and said they'll make it to go. She gave us the bill, we charged it to our room. After another 15 minutes a gentleman, possibly a manger, didn't identify himself came over with our slip, which showed all of our food order and said he doesn't know why, but they didn't make us anything else. Told him that if it hadn't been made then we'd move on. Just said ok, didn't try to make it right. Then when we got back to our room, ordered a pizza to be delivered. Had to go back over to the main building to get pick. Went to the restaurant and waited another 5 minutes for the bartender to even make eye contact to request plates and silverware. Then got back to our room wanted to watch Monday night football. Couldn't get it come on the TV, even though the game showed up on the bottom as a choice. Called the front desk and was told they don't offer it on the rooms, but we could go to the restaurant to watch it. Explained our previous situation at the restaurant, she didn't seem to care. Asked if we could pay for it, just a mo, you can go to the restaurant to watch. Worst $1500 spent, and we love Boston, just not the Battery Wharf. And as it was, because they're was a conference Monday night was the most expensive at $477/ night. Would not recommend this hotel.
I stayed at the Battery Wharf Hotel from August 21 to 23, 2025, and had an extremely disappointing experience at the front desk. I was denied check-in because my name was allegedly not in their system, despite my friend having already emailed their manager to include me as a guest. The manager later offered a poor excuse, claiming the email needed to explicitly state that I was to be “checked in as a guest,” even though the intent of the request was clear and had been acknowledged. I would have understood if this had been an honest mistake followed by an effort to rectify it, but instead, the staff attempted to shift the blame onto me. No assistance was offered, and their manner throughout was unhelpful and discourteous. The manager's colleague on duty that day was particularly rude, never addressing me by name and referring to me only as “excuse me,” which fell far below acceptable service standards. For a four-star hotel at this price point, such hospitality is completely unacceptable. Even basic courtesy would dictate addressing a guest by their name, yet I was not even given that. There was also a lack of eye contact throughout the interaction, which only added to the unwelcoming atmosphere. This was particularly disappointing given that the hotel was not busy that day, so there was no reason for such inattentive and dismissive service. Later on, I was not even offered any assistance by the concierge to hold my luggage while I waited for the room to be cleaned and for check-in to be completed. This was after I had to trouble my friend to send yet another email to the hotel to confirm my stay. Compliments to the bellboy who eventually assisted me with my luggage. He was courteous, helpful, and pleasantly chatty, which was a refreshing contrast to the earlier poor service. Overall, while the rooms were comfortable, the bellboy was pleasant and helpful, and the checkout staff (on the last day) were attentive and polite, I would not choose to stay at this hotel again or recommend to my family and friends. For its price point, I believe much better service can be found elsewhere.
If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. Battery Wharf Hotel Boston is a disgrace to hospitality and a perfect example of how NOT to treat paying customers. I specifically booked a “water view” room only to be stuck in a room with a pathetic glimpse of the harbor – if you stood on tiptoe and craned your neck! Total bait and switch! The so-called “customer service” is non-existent. The front desk staff were rude, dismissive, and acted as if I was inconveniencing them by daring to ask for the room I paid for. Not a single apology for the ridiculously long wait at check-in, which was over an hour past check-in time! They didn’t even have the decency to offer a simple “I’m sorry for the wait.” The hotel management clearly has no clue how to run a business or value their guests. It’s overpriced, underwhelming, and a complete waste of money. The Battery Wharf Hotel may pretend to be a luxury hotel, but the only thing “luxurious” here is their arrogance and incompetence. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else in Boston. This place is a total joke.
We recently stayed at this hotel and had a mixed experience. The location was decent and convenient for our plans, and we truly appreciated the complimentary room upgrade. The room itself was spacious and comfortable in terms of layout. However, several issues affected the overall quality of our stay. The air conditioning wasn’t working properly, and the showers had issues as well, which was frustrating. Amenities were quite average, and the room carpet felt old and worn. As pet owners, we were particularly disappointed by the very high pet fees, especially given there was no designated area on the premises for walking or relieving our dog. For the cost, we expected a more accommodating and thoughtful experience. Unfortunately, the overall value didn’t match the price we paid. While there were some positives, we don’t feel the experience justified the cost.
