The AC Hotel by Marriott Boston Cleveland Circle receives mixed reviews, with highlights including a convenient location and welcoming staff. However, significant concerns revolve around high parking and destination fees, inconsistent service, noise levels, and a perceived lack of value for the price, particularly regarding room amenities and cleanliness. Recent reviews emphasize the impact of train noise and a push for minimal service levels.
It’s close to family, which is why I stay here, but a few things that are weird about this hotel: they leave the lights on in any room that’s not occupied all night long, which seems like both a huge waste of energy, and kind of a pain when you first get to the room. There are probably 10-12 small lamps you need to find the switch for and turn off. It’s nice there are so many lighting options, but do they all need to be turned on and then turned off? Second, the hvac system is sooooo loud. Heating and cooling are both insanely loud. I usually either try to heat or cool the room before bed and turn it off.
Would not recommend - hot water does not seem to work early in the morning. Tried to shower at 430am, ran the water for 10+ minutes, not even any steam. Faucet same temperature. Best it got was ice cold to barely lukewarm. When I filled out the feedback form by email after (because I didn't want to bother the overnight desk workers with something they probably couldn't fix) all I got back was a message with things like "Hope you'll stay with us again in the future." Not a great experience. EDIT: see their response below, same generic copy and paste language.
I’ve stayed at this hotel multiple times over the past two years, and I’m disappointed with the amenities offered, regardless of my Bonvoy status. There’s no concierge lounge, valet parking, or complimentary breakfast. Even basic room amenities like mouthwash and body lotion are missing. Parking is an additional $45 per night, and a new $25 daily destination fee has been added. The rooms are noisy due to the frequent train and traffic, and you can hear the sounds of neighboring rooms. The bar area is small and usually staffed by only one person. Food is available, but the wait times vary significantly. During a recent weekend stay, my wife and I planned to order cocktails at the bar. However, all the available floor seating was cluttered with empty bottles, glasses, and dishes. The bar seating was full, and after standing at the bar for over 20 minutes, my wife and I decided to give up on ordering cocktails.
Rooms: 5|Service: 3|Location: 3 The rooms are not bad actually. Even though walls are very thin, (seriously, you could hear someone fart or speak in the next room) they now have good white noise machines to help drown out the noise. My only complaint this time is that every time I visit this hotel, the breakfast is a hot mess. They run out of food, coffee mug, etc., and the utensils are on a separate table and have to be handed to you. Why?
We’ve stayed here several times and been satisfied with the rooms and location. We never had a room by the tracks, can’t speak to the noise. But this trip we find they have put plastic mattress covers on the beds, and it feels like you’re sleeping on a blow-up pool float. I am actually lying in bed in the hotel right now, it is squeaking with every movement and giving a hot, unhygienic feeling. Gross, cheap, uncomfortable, and we won’t be back.
Parking is $45 a day. That's criminal considering that you can find a parking garage in the city for overnight parking for less than $45. Look on SpotHero and you can find safe and easy overnight parking for less than $20 most nights. Some of the spots are a bit of a walk but it's worth it to save the money. Housekeeping is minimal. Housekeeping doesn't actually clean your room each day. They simply empty out the garbage. Why are the rates minimal to match the minimal level of service? There's also a $25 destination fee. Lastly, the rooms themselves are noisy as is the location. As other people have mentioned, this location faces train tracks. I live in a big city and am quite used to noise about the rooms seem to have absolutely no soundproofing. It's more than obvious that management is doing the absolute bare minimum here yet charging maximum rates, especially for parking, breakfast and the destination fee. It's a shame that Marriott has allowed their brand standards to sink so extraordinarily low.
A new, cozy, and clean hotel, but: • Parking costs $45 per day, and it’s not even valet. It’s not included in the rate for long stays, and there are no alternatives nearby. • On the third day, I asked them to change our bed linens and mop the floors — I was completely ignored. They only emptied the trash and replaced the towels. • There’s a large dumpster right outside the hotel, and as you can imagine, in summer the smell is quite unpleasant. • A railway line runs nearby, and at night it can be impossible to sleep because of the noise. • The soundproofing is terrible — we could hear all our neighbors from every side. • They also charge $25 per day for some kind of “credit,” but it’s unclear what exactly it’s for. You can supposedly spend it in the lobby, bar, or on breakfast — otherwise, it just expires. Doesn’t this violate consumer rights? This charge wasn’t mentioned at the time of booking, and I didn’t give consent for my money to be managed in this way. However, there are also some pros: • The staff is sweet and polite • The hotel is new and feels fresh • There’s a wonderful café with delicious food right across the street
I have stayed at this hotel a few times and always have a pleasant experience. The rooms are clean and spacious. It is close to a train stop making it easy to arrive by train or to head downtown. From this hotel I have also walked to/from Boston College (about 20 minutes).
Disclaimer: I gave 'Rooms' a 5 because our event room was lovely, but we did not stay in the guest rooms so I have no feedback to provide there. I attended the graduation dinner event for Washington Square Academy at this hotel last week, and I think the team did a lovely job as hosts. My background is in hospitality, so my standards are high, and they cleared the bar with ease. There were no tech mishaps or need for creative solutions. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the space was clean and inviting, and the food was well presented/well monitored/and quickly cleared all without causing a disruption to the event proceedings. I would absolutely recommend the AC Hotel Boston Cleveland Circle if you're looking to host a 80-100 person event that sets a classy and welcoming tone. Great job, team!
Any and all even numbered rooms face the commuter rail tracks. The tracks are less than 10 yards from your room windows. Trains fly by every 5-10 minutes or so well into late night. It’s a bit criminal that they rent out those rooms. Unless they can guarantee you an odd numbered room, you might as well sleep on the benches next to the rail stop. Seriously. They do offer you a white noise machine in the room - but if you have morning meetings, you can’t use it in a loud enough setting for fear of sleeping through your alarm. Shameful.
